WHO WE ARE

At NorthScale, all of our trainers have advanced degrees, are trained therapists, and have extensive zen meditation training (a minimum of 10 consecutive years of intensive practice, under the guidance of a highly respected teacher, or Sensei). This is our work, our practice, and our life. We are committed to it, and to you.

Our Founder

Kirstin Broderick has practiced Zen meditation for over 20 years.

She has a Masters in Strategic Management & Economic Development (Harvard) and is a trained therapist (MSW, Fordham). She has worked with organizations from The World Bank, to fast-growing tech companies, VC firms, and even vegan food trucks.

Kirstin completed her first intensive three-day silent meditation training in rural Japan in 1998. In 2004 she became a student of Roshi Janet Jiryu Abels of Still Mind Zendo in NYC. Kirstin received Jukai – or Zen Ordination – in 2012, and was given the dharma name Daikatsu, translated as Great Liveliness, or Big Life.

WHAT WE DO

Do you have the patience to wait until your
mud settles and your water is clear?
— Lao Tzu

NorthScale provides the structure, discipline and long-term support necessary to develop a new generation of calm, focused, high-performing leaders.

Perfected by Buddhist Monks and Zen Teachers over three thousand years, focus-based meditation has been confirmed by neuroscientists to improve brain composition, reduce anxiety, strengthen focus, and increase resilience. NorthScale uses these practices in a modern performance development program to support the next generation of high-performing leaders.

NorthScale helps leaders and businesses be more innovative, agile, and effective, even under the greatest of pressure.

Our training is based on a unique combination of behavioral analysis, focused-based meditation, and intellectual inquiry. We work with clients to hone their minds, helping them identify and see beyond existing paradigms of success and failure, rise above desire and hate, contextualize concepts of right and wrong, and tackle life’s biggest questions around death, meaning, and purpose.
